In January’s online event, we dive into vertical forests and the Trudo Tower in the Netherlands. The speakers will be agronomist and landscape designer Laura Gatti and Jarno van Veelen from Kekkila-BVB Landscaping. Arja-Liisa Kaasinen, Head of Collaboration & Engagement of the Museum of Finnish Architecture, will lead the discussion.
Laura Gatti and Jarno van Veelen worked together in the Trudo Vertical Forest project. In the context of Stefano Boeri Architetti‘s vision for a new architecture of biodiversity, Trudo Vertical Forest applies the Vertical Forest model to social housing for the first time. Designed to accommodate mainly low-income users – such as young professionals and students – the tower in Eindhoven houses flats with low rents but high living quality. The complex vision of “living” coexistence between man and other species is thus amplified in the project into a dual challenge: the possibility of combining the great challenge of the environmental crisis with the urgent need for affordable housing in contemporary cities.

The event is part of the program of the Garden Futures – Designing with Nature exhibition. Garden Futures is the first collaborative exhibition between the Museum of Finnish Architecture and Design Museum on their journey towards a new architecture and design museum. It will sprawl across both museums, taking over the exhibition spaces on Kasarmikatu and Korkeavuorenkatu from November 10, 2023.
