Seminar is part of the Architecture and Design Day 2021 programme. Held in English. Free of charge.
What is architecture and design learning in a museum? How could your own built environment be improved? How could teaching of architecture and design be facilitated in practice? How to improve architectural education of the future architects?
A&DO mini webinar sheds light on current perspectives on architecture and design education through a keynote lecture and case studies. Architecture and design education is a social activity that aims to strengthen one’s autonomy and capacity to act in one’s own built environment.
The keynote speakers Fiona MacDonald and Matthew Springett present the latest news of architecture and design education in London. Fiona MacDonald will talk about her work as the Head of Learning at the Design Museum. Architect Matthew Springett gives insight into the activities of MATT+FIONA, the award-winning collaborative venture of the two. “How would you improve your built environment?” MATT+FIONA works with young people and aims to empower them to bring their visions to life. In four years they have accomplished projects at a range of scales.
The seminar is moderated by A&DO Learning Centre for Architecture and Design team members Arja-Liisa Kaasinen from the Museum of Finnish Architecture and Hanna Kapanen from the Design Museum. A&DO Learning Centre for Architecture and Design organizes the seminar in collaboration with Alvar Aalto Foundation and Architecture Information Centre Finland.

A&DO – Learning Centre for Architecture and Design
Architecture and design belong to everyone. A&DO – Learning Centre for Architecture and Design wants to encourage people to learn about their living environment by sharing experiences and doing things together. The centre is established in 2020–2023 with the help of the Museum Vision grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation. In spring 2021, A&DO launches a touring DesignLab, which travels in six different locations in Finland to inspire people to learn about architecture and design. www.ado.fi
