Exhibition for Moomin 80th Anniversary
Muualla
Tove Jansson is celebrated as a brilliant author and visual artist, but she was also a master at shaping spaces. The Moomin 80th anniversary will culminate in an exhibition at the Architecture and Design Museum Helsinki, opening in October 2025, that will offer a unique perspective on the world of Tove and the Moomins. The exhibition explores how Tove Jansson perceived architecture and design in her own life and how these elements are reflected in the stories of Moominvalley.
The worlds portrayed by Tove Jansson, both in literature and art, have since childhood been etched into the minds of many of us, as layered images of comfort and safety. In the Moominhouse, the warmth of home coexists in harmony with life’s upheavals and mysteries – and the door is always open to everyone.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey from Tove’s childhood, through her life as an artist in the city, her summers in the archipelago, and to the Moominhouse, from which most people remember her. Through never-before-seen collection highlights, detailed glimpses into Tove Jansson’s personal surroundings come to life – from her studio homes and summer cottages to the caves of childhood play.
The exhibition at the Architecture and Design Museum Helsinki will be open to the public from 10 October 2025 until autumn 2026. The exhibition is organised in collaboration with Moomin Characters.
