Carina Jaatinen named new director of the Museum of Finnish Architecture

Carina Jaatinen MA will take up her position on February 15, 2021. The Museum of Finnish Architecture bids welcome to its new director!

In its search for a new director, the Museum of Finnish Architecture was looking for a visionary, whose main task over the following years will be to steer the transformation of the Museum of Finnish Architecture towards the creation of the new architecture and design museum, together with the Design Museum, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the City of Helsinki. The position was advertised publicly.

The Administrative Board of the Foundation for the Museum of Finnish Architecture has selected Carina Jaatinen MA as the museum’s new director.  She was previously the Head of Exhibitions at Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre. Jaatinen graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Helsinki in 2000. Among her previous positions, she has worked as an exhibition manager at the Espoo City Museum and as an acting director of development at the Finnish Heritage Agency. Jaatinen is also currently a board member of the International Council of Museums – ICOM. Jaatinen’s expertise lies in her extensive knowledge of the museum sector, in her success in personnel management, and in her networking.

– Carina Jaatinen is an experienced innovator, who will complement the Museum of Finnish Architecture’s expertise in a situation where a strong expert organization will be going through renewal, with a focus on the patron. – It is fascinating to be involved in the development of the Museum of Finnish Architecture at this very moment, on the threshold of the museum’s historical renewal. The role of museums in society is undergoing a transformation, and they are expected to play a more active role in strengthening an egalitarian and sustainable way of life. The mission of the Museum of Finnish Architecture could thus not be more topical, as architecture plays a key role when reflecting on the conditions for a good life, the planning of future societies and sustainable building. The Museum of Finnish Architecture’s strong expertise in architecture, architectural heritage and the built cultural environment provides an excellent foundation for the development of a patron-oriented operating culture and services. Carina Jaatinen will take up her position on February 15, 2021. Until then, the director’s position will be held by Arja-Liisa Kaasinen, Head of Collaboration & Engagement, who will later return to her duties, in being responsible for the museum’s audience development, patron services and communications. The Museum of Finnish Architecture would like to thank Arja-Liisa Kaasinen for temporarily managing the director’s position and welcomes the new museum director!
