Adopt a Drawing

The Museum of Finnish Architecture raises funds for the maintenance of the drawing collection through the Adopt a Drawing campaign. This page features a selection of architect Uno Ullberg’s most beautiful drawings.

Uno Ullberg
Architect Uno Ullberg (1879–1944) was one of the leading names in Finnish 20th century architecture. Ullberg has rightly been seen as the architect most associated with Vyborg, in that most of his works are located in what was his home town. Ullberg’s career coincided with most dramatic periods of change in architecture, from the early 20th century to the 1940s. Over the decades, the versatile architect was able to maintain the topicality of his design work. He reinvented his form language from Art Nouveau to the Classicism of the 1920s and later to Modernism in its various forms. More important in Ullberg’s work, however, than the architectural trends of the time, was his deep respect for the requirements and history of the building location.

What is drawing adoption?
The Museum of Finnish Architecture has launched the Adopt a Drawing (Adoptoi piirustus) campaign to help support the collection work. During the campaign, it is possible to adopt a drawing from a selection of over a half-million drawings.

How it works?
If a client wants to adopt a drawing, the museum staff will help find a suitable one, for example, according to the architect, the era or the type of building. Depending on the size of the drawing, the adoption costs 400–1000 euros and the full amount is used to conserve and care for the drawings.

The adoption remains in the museum as long as the drawing: the name of the person who adopted the drawing is attached to the collection’s information, and the sponsor also receives a certificate of honour and a 1: 1 copy of the drawing.

Why?
The maintenance, conservation and documentation of the drawings are the primary tasks of the Museum of Finnish Architecture. The management of the collections aims to ensure that the common architectural heritage is preserved for future generations.
