ALVAR AALTO MEDAL 50TH ANNIVERSARY

The Museum of Finnish Architecture’s main autumn exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary and the winners of the international architecture prize bearing Alvar Aalto’s name. Over the past 50 years, the Alvar Aalto Medal has been awarded to accomplished architects from 10 countries, and in 2017, handed over for the 13th time. Read more »

The winner of the 2017 Alvar Aalto Medal is Chinese architect Zhang Ke. His office ZAO/ standardarchitecture is one of China’s leading producers of contemporary architecture. By combining landscape elements in his work, Ke is able to subtly create harmonious relationships between surrounding terrain and architecture. Read more »


DECADES OF FINNISH ARCHITECTURE 1900–1970

The exhibition takes its visitors on a journey into the Finnish architecture of the 20th century. Different features, technical solutions, materials and interior design are followed from decade to decade; from National Romanticism to Classicism and Functionalism, through the Modernism that created the country’s international reputation to the architecture of the 1970's.
