SUUR-MERIJOKI MANOR – THE JEWEL OF FINNISH ART NOUVEAU

6.3.2019 - 8.9.2019

Suur-Merijoki Manor in Viipuri Province was a Finnish Art Nouveau masterpiece, a ‘total work of art’ that became one the most famous Finnish homes of its era. The exhibition reawakens the former glory of the perished manor designed by the young architect trio Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen. Read more »


RADICAL THEATRE

6.3.2019 - 2.6.2019

Finnish architect P.E. Blomstedt designed a theatre for Hakaniemi Square exemplifying the most radical contemporary ideas about theatrical reform. His modern ‘People’s Theatre’ was never built, but the original drawings are preserved in the Museum of Finnish Architecture’s archives. Read more »


DECADES OF FINNISH ARCHITECTURE 1900–1970

The exhibition takes its visitors on a journey into the Finnish architecture of the 20th century. Different features, technical solutions, materials and interior design are followed from decade to decade; from National Romanticism to Classicism and Functionalism, through the Modernism that created the country’s international reputation to the architecture of the 1970's.
