GUIDED ARCHITECTURE WALKING TOURS IN HELSINKI
through August 31
Guided architecture walking tours start again in July. Tours are organized by the Museum of Finnish Architecture. The guide, Gayle McKeen, is an experienced tour guide, who has conducted tours for the Chicago Architecture Foundation. She holds a Ph.D. in political science
from the University of Chicago and has taught at universities in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Please note: Tours are held in English, approximate duration 2 hours. MFA reserves the right to call off the tours in case of severe weather.
Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 11 AM: Historic Tour
Starting point: Senate Square, statue of Alexander II, Price: 10 € / 5 € / Children under 18 for free
The history of the city of Helsinki is stored in the buildings and monuments of the dense city centre. Guided walking tours through the heart of Helsinki shed light on the history of Finland, its citizens, its neighboring states, and the role of Finnish national identity in architecture from the early 19th to the late 20th century.
Thursdays and Saturdays at 11 AM: Ullanlinna Tour
Starting point: Museum of Finnish Architecture, Kasarmikatu 24, Price: 10 € / 5 € / Children under 18 for free
Discover how town planning created two of Helsinki's most beautiful neighborhoods, distinctive for their parks and colorful residential buildings. The two-hour tour embarks from the Museum of Finnish Architecture towards the cozy Ullanlinna quarters by the seaside and then proceeds to briefly explore the Eira neighborhood nearby.
