BIENNIAL SURVEYS OF FINNISH ARCHITECTURE

Picks from the top of fresh Finnish architecture have been displayed in biennial exhibitions and accompanying books from 2002 on. The works span the various fields of architecture and vary in size from small structures to whole areas. Directed to an international audience, the surveys make topical Finnish architecture widely known and support the export of our architecture.

The exhibitions are first shown in Helsinki and then toured in Finland and abroad. Lectures and seminars are also arranged in connection with the presentations. The books are printed in English. Besides presenting the selected works they contain views of Finnish and foreign writers on contemporary Finnish architecture, and a calendar of events. They are sold in connection with the exhibition and in bookshops in Finland and around the world.

A jury of experts is appointed for each survey to select the works to be displayed. Proposals are welcomed from architects as well as others interested in architecture. The jury's work is based on the submitted proposals but it may select other works, too.

SURVEY 2010–2011: VIEWPOINTS

The survey to be arranged in 2012, Finish Architecture 2010–2011, is based on a new concept.  Architecture will be displayed on screens and points of view will be expressed by those who buy, do, build and use it, in addition to the jury responsible for the selection of works.

The exhibition will be shown at the Museum of Finnish Architecture from 6 June to 22 July, 2012.

The biennial surveys are organised by the Alvar Aalto Academy, the Finnish Association of Architects SAFA and the Museum of Finnish Architecture.
